The Burmese junta shoots on the aid and announces the truce

Already three thousand deaths. A 26 -year -old alive extract 5 days from the earthquake

In Myanmar still upset by the effects of the devastating earthquake of magnitude 7.7, the military junta in power since 2021 showed its hardest face by bombing a convoy of aid in transit from an area controlled by the rebels, only to announce a temporary fire. A violence that clashes with a country that continues to update the budget of the victims upwards, while the despair of the survivors remained with very few humanitarian aid increases.

The earthquake has razed buildings to the ground throughout Myanmar, killing almost 3,000 people, causing 4,639 wounded and leaving thousands homeless. But with the communications that work in fits and starts, the full flow of the disaster has yet to be clear and the balance of the dead is destined to rise. The junta said that he would have observed a respite until April 22 to facilitate rescue efforts, but the announcement arrived on the same day when the military opened fire against a convoy that was bringing aid to the areas affected by the earthquake: according to the national liberation army Ta’ang, cited by the BBC, the military troops fired against a convoy of 9 vehicles using heavy machine guns while crossing the town of Naung. Cho, in the northern state of Shan, heading to Mandalay. The rebels said that the convoy had informed the junta of his path, but the army denied.

The government, announcing the ceased, made it known that “the goal is to accelerate rescue and reconstruction efforts and maintain peace and stability”. However, the army warned its opponents, a complex ranks of pro-democracy armed groups and ethnic minorities, which would still have responded to attacks, deeds of sabotage or “gatherings, organizations and expansions of territory that would have undermined peace”.

Meanwhile, the efforts of the rescuers in the hope of finding survivors were repaid when a boy was extracted alive by the rubble of a hotel, five days after the earthquake. The 26 -year -old was saved from the ruins of the building in the capital Naypyiday. On the aid front, the international community continues its mobilization: the European Commission has announced the sending of a new humanitarian aerial bridge “to deliver life -saving aid with 18 tons of EU supplies”. In particular, “childhood assistance, health and hygienic aids and supplies, provided to UNICEF and other EU humanitarian partners, and we are also sending 12 experts from EU countries with the civil protection mechanism to Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur for rescue operations”, explained the spokesman for the European Commission Eva Hrncirova. And “This is added to the 3 million euros of initial emergency aid and to our Copernicus satellite maps that we have already provided. Ensuring access to humanitarian operators is fundamental. So we invite all the parties in conflict to respect international humanitarian law”, underlined the EU official.

Italy has also done its part: Farnesina has approved an emergency contribution of 2 million euros in favor of the international federation of the red cross and red crooked companies (Ficross), promptly arranged through cooperation for the supply of immediate aid and assistance to the communities most affected by the earthquake. In this context, the leader of the military junta Min Aung Hlaing has announced that tomorrow will still participate in Bangkok in a summit of the countries of Southern Asia, including Myanmar and Thailand, where he will discuss the response to the earthquake.
