The military junta announces temporary respite in Myanmar

From today until April 22, to help reconstruction after earthquake

The Myanmar junta has announced a ceased temporary fire in the fight against rebel groups in the country struggling with the consequences of a devastating earthquake. The junta said in a note that the ceased will be in force from today and until April 22 “with the aim of accelerating the efforts of rescue and reconstruction and to maintain peace and stability” after the earthquake of last Friday in which almost 3,000 people were killed.

The leader of the junta, Min Aung Hlaing, will still participate in tomorrow’s regional summit in Bangkok.
