Discovered in Vietnam two ancient boats

Raised randomly during the work for a fish breeding

The Vietnam Archeology Institute is leading an emergency excavation to bring to light two boats casually discovered during work to create a pond for fish breeding, to Thuan Thanh, in the province of Bac Ninh, in the north of the country.

Both boats, located near the western wall of the royal citadel of Luy Lau, dating back to the second century BC, measure about 16 meters in length and inside they contain six compartments of variable depth.

“According to the preliminary evaluations of archaeologists, these could have been two cargo boats that operated on the Dau river, fixed together as a single unit. Currently, the experts are continuing the excavations and searches to establish when the boats were built, analyze the type of wood used and evaluate the relocation options after the excavations”, reported Nguyen Huu Mao, director of the Museum of Bac Ninh, DANCTRI DAGRA.
