Discomfort in transport, expected improvement from tomorrow
Strong rains paralyze Mumbai, the financial capital of India, which this morning woke up submerged from the high water to the knee, which upset the lives of millions of people, experiencing roads and causing the cancellation of flights and trains. In the last four days at least 21 people have died in accidents caused by rain in the state of the Maharastra. The BBC reports it.
Many areas of the city remain flooded from high water to life, with videos showing the residents swimming in the flooded streets while the waste comes out of the clogged sewers.
Yesterday the authorities rescued almost 600 people who were stuck on an overcrowded monorail who stopped halfway through. At least 23 of them had to be treated for suffocation symptoms, they reported the city authorities.
Most schools and universities are closed. About 350 people were evacuated from the low areas of the city and transferred to temporary shelters.
The Indian meteorological department has issued a red alert for the city and neighboring districts, providing strong rains also for today, followed by an improvement in the continuation of the week.
