Clashes in front of the presidential residence
South Korean investigators today suspended the execution of an arrest warrant for deposed President Yoon Suk-yeol at his residence in Seoul after his bodyguards prevented them from doing so.
“Regarding the execution of the arrest warrant today, it has been determined to be physically impossible due to the ongoing impasse,” the Corruption Investigation Office (CIO) said in a statement. “Concerns for the safety of personnel on site led to the decision to stop the execution.”
Previously, the South Korean Presidential Security Service had once again succeeded in preventing Yoon’s arrest. The agents sent to capture him had met resistance, and clashes had occurred in front of the presidential residence. Investigators from the Corruption Investigation Office for Senior Officials (CIO) had filed warrants to arrest Yoon and search the residence, but Security Service chief Park Chong-jun denied them entry, citing privacy rules.
