Premier Thailand, assets of 400 million, including 217 bags

Worth more than 2 million, watches worth 4.6 million euros

More than 200 designer bags, dozens of luxury watches and real estate in London and Japan: this is only a small part of the personal wealth of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, estimated at 13.8 billion baht, equal to almost 400 million euro.

This is what emerges from his declaration of interests to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC), made necessary after his appointment last August and published today.

Its various investments and holdings are worth 11 billion baht (more than 310 million euros), while its liquidity amounts to one billion baht (more than 28 million euros). Other assets include 75 luxury watches worth 162 million baht (nearly 4.6 million euros), 217 designer bags worth 76 million baht (more than 2 million euros) and real estate in the British capital and Japan.

Paetongtarn Shinawatra also declared liabilities of almost five billion baht (more than 141 million euros), according to the Nacc document published by local media, for a net worth of 8.9 billion baht (more than 251 million euros) . His father, Thaksin Shinawatra, bought the Manchester City soccer club in 2007, after becoming prime minister of Thailand, and is now worth $2.1 billion, according to Forbes, making him the tenth richest person of the country. Thaksin Shinawatra used the wealth generated by his Shin Corp telecommunications empire to enter politics, and his family remained influential even during the years in exile after the September 2006 coup.
