Campinos: ‘A perfect symbiosis between past, present and future ”
The president of the European Patent Office (EPO), António Campinos, visited the Italian Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, welcomed by the Commissioner General for Italy Mario Vattani. The meeting represented a moment of dialogue on the role of innovation, creativity and protection of ideas in European economic growth and in the enhancement of Made in Italy.
Campinos, at the end of the visit, expressed great appreciation for the work done by the Italian team and for the quality of the experience offered. He explained that he was “very impressed by the Italian pavilion, by the work of the ambassador, the commissioner and all the wonderful staff who works here”. According to the president of the Epo, the Italian exhibition itinerary is “a journey, an experience that allows you to see how intangible technologies are based with art, until it allows the humanity to go into space”.
Campinos defined Italy “a very strong Member State in the system of European patents” and stressed that the pavilion “is among the most visited, if not the most visited, of the entire Expo”. What hit him most, he added, is “the perfect symbiosis between past, present and future that the path manages to transmit, combining heart, technology and music”.
In welcoming Campinos, Mario Vattani recalled how “it was a real pleasure to welcome the president of the European Patent Office to the Italian Pavilion”. He explained that the themes of patents, research and innovation “are at the center of the Visitor Experience of the pavilion, thanks also to the exhibition Italy of patents, promoted by the Ministry of Companies and Made in Italy under the guidance of Minister Adolfo Urso”.
Vattani recalled that the pavilion is “a place where Italian ingenuity and creativity become concrete story of business, technology and future”. Precisely in this context, in the presence of the deputy minister Valentino Valentini, some of the best startups and innovative projects were rewarded, examples, he said, “of that Italy that creates and who looks to the world with a spirit of collaboration and growth”.
The commissioner also highlighted the presence of the ADI stand, with the prizes of the international gold compass, as further confirmation of the excellence of Italian industrial design. “The Italian pavilion – he concluded – is confirmed as a strategic outpost of growth diplomacy, where innovation and beauty meet to tell the future of Made in Italy”.
The visit of Campinos thus strengthened the link between Epo and Italy, placing the emphasis on the value of innovation and intellectual property as tools for sustainable development and international cooperation.
