Higher energy bills after government subsidies cut
The higher costs of energy bills are pushing inflation in Japan, which has remained above the 2% target set by the Central Bank (BoJ), continuously since April 2022. In November the index of consumer prices, adjusted for the most volatile components, rose to 2.7%, from 2.3% in the previous month. In addition to the increase in prices of rice and food products in general, analysts say, energy prices have seen a surge after the government cut subsidies for electricity and urban gas bills.
