New $571 million defense package
Beijing has declared that it “strongly opposes” the new US aid of 571 million dollars granted to the defense of Taiwan, an island subject to growing Chinese military pressure.
“This decision seriously jeopardizes China’s sovereignty and security interests,” Beijing’s Foreign Ministry said. The White House announced on Friday that it intends to send military “items and services” to “provide assistance to Taiwan” for 547 million euros, a month before the end of the mandate of US President Joe Biden who had already approved aid for 567 million in September of dollars.
