In China, the 5 years since the first death from Covid have been kept quiet

In Wuhan the first official victim was a 61-year-old man

The first anniversary, which falls today, of the first official victim of Covid-19 has passed unnoticed in China: a pandemic which in the large Asian country, where it officially began, is still a taboo subject.

The first death, in the city of Wuhan, subsequently placed under lockdown with all its 11 million inhabitants, was a 61-year-old man, who succumbed to pulmonary complications caused by the then unknown virus. His death was, however, kept secret for several weeks, until the confirmed infections became numerous and the responsible virus was identified.

On Chinese social media the event is completely absent, with the exception of Douyin – the Chinese version of Tik Tok -, where a brief official reminder of the event endorsed by the Communist Party is reported.
