A further 500,000 euros have been disbursed in addition to the 2 million already allocated
The EU is stepping up relief efforts led by the Nepalese authorities and humanitarian partners. A first EU Humanitarian Airlift flight is delivering 82 tonnes of relief goods, while the European Commission is providing an additional 500,000 euros for the emergency response and to coordinate aid offered by European countries.
Organized in collaboration with UNICEF, the Airlift flight landed this morning carrying supplies for food, health, water and sanitation, shelter, education and protection from EU stockpiles. The additional €500,000 will be provided through the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ Disaster Response Emergency Fund, enabling local teams to address the most urgent needs. Separately, through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Luxembourg, Germany, Latvia and Norway are sending equipment including life jackets, hygiene and kitchen kits, blankets, medical supplies, personal protective equipment and emergency power equipment.
This additional help adds to the EU response already underway. On 28 August, the Commission allocated €2 million in emergency humanitarian aid, adding to the almost €3 million already allocated to Nepal in 2026 for disaster preparedness. EU-funded partners are providing assistance on the ground, while the Copernicus emergency satellite mapping system has been activated and EU rapid response and logistics coordinators have been deployed in Asia.
