USA, Germany, France, Japan and Canada main customers
“Despite the climate crises and national problems linked, for example, to the proliferation of xylella and drought, the export data for Italian olive oil are confirmed for 2023 and until September 2024 as well. The main customers are the USA, Germany, France, Japan and Canada. In September 2024, not in absolute terms but in percentage terms, we see the emergence of new importing countries: Australia. (228% increase in imports) and South Korea (149% increase)”. This was stated by Brunella Saccone, director of the Agri-Food Office of Agenzia Ice (Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies) at the presentation of the Ercole Olivario Award today in Rome. “These data, although not relevant as an absolute value, but as a percentage, give us – he added – the dimension of how new paths for the export of our oil should be explored and followed, it is necessary that the producing companies try to understand what the better internationalization strategies, it is necessary to analyze local consumption trends, adapt packaging, protect the product from imitations and attempts at counterfeiting and more generally, understand that Italian extra virgin olive oil is an asset for our country and as such it is necessary put all the necessary actions are in place for its protection, valorisation and for the correct remuneration of the supply chain”.
