On housing-inheritance for same-sex couples, government appeal rejected

Hong Kong’s highest court has confirmed the protection of housing and inheritance for same-sex couples, siding against the government’s appeal and in favor of the protection of LGBTQ rights. “The court unanimously rejects” the appeals of the government of the former British colony, Chief Justice Andrew Cheung of the Court of final appeal wrote in two rulings that marked the end of a six-year dispute, which began when resident Nick Infinger sued the government over its policy of excluding him and his partner from public rental housing on the grounds that they were not a “normal family.”
