Canada, “we are essential for US energy supply”
“No one will win a trade war or a tariff war” between the US and China. This was stated in a note by the spokesperson of the Chinese embassy in Washington Liu Pengyu, regarding what was threatened by the American president-elect Donald Trump regarding the imposition of further 10% duties on all imports made in China when he takes office on the 20th January 2025.
“China believes that bilateral economic and trade cooperation is “mutually beneficial,” Liu added.
Trump said the tariffs would remain until China stopped the flow of illegal drugs, particularly fentanyl, into the US.
Canada is “essential to the energy supply” of the United States, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland said after Donald Trump announced plans to impose 25% tariffs on its northern neighbor on his first day as president . “Our relationship is balanced and mutually beneficial, especially for American workers,” Freeland added, saying Ottawa will continue “to discuss these issues with the new American administration.”
