Zhang, co-founder of TikTok, is China's new richest man

CNN has ousted the king of Chinese bottled water after 3 years

China has a new richest man: the entrepreneur behind the hugely popular and controversial TikTok app Zhang Yiming, 41, co-founder of TikTok’s parent company ByteDance, tops the 2024 Hurun China Rich List. CNN writes it.

Zhang’s wealth reached $49.3 billion in a surge that saw ByteDance’s global revenue grow 30% last year to $110 billion, Hurun said.

Zhang’s rise to the top of the rich list has displaced China’s “bottled water king” Zhong Shanshan from first place for the first time in three years, who remained in second place.

In third place was Pony Ma, founder of the multimedia and entertainment giant Tencent, owner of the Chinese messaging and payments platform WeChat.
