The National Meteorological Agency (JMA) explained that a high pressure system covered most of the archipelago, and the mercury column rose to at least 35 degrees in most of western and eastern Japan. The maximum daytime temperature reached 40.5 degrees in the city of Kuwana, in the prefecture of Mia, and the 40.3 degrees recorded in the city of Hatoyama, in the prefecture of Saitama north of Tokyo.

It is the eighth day this year when temperatures equal to or greater than 40 degrees are recorded in the country; A figure that exceeds the annual record established in 2018. Specifically, large cities saw temperatures of 39.1 degrees in Nagoya, 38.5 in the center of Tokyo, 38 in Kyoto and 36.1 in Osaka. The authorities have issued alert notices for possible heat strokes in 28 prefectures, and the torrid climate will be expected to continue to rage for about a week.

In the meantime, the heat and humid air have brought unstable weather conditions, in the regions of Kyushu and Chugoku, in the southwest of Japan. The Jma warned of the possibility of landslides, floods in the low areas and rivers in full, with possible tornadoes and hailstorms.
