First high-level China-Russia meeting since Trump’s victory

China is ready to cooperate with Russia against growing external challenges: in this way the two sides “can protect their common interests”. Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during the meeting held today in Beijing with the Secretary of the Russian National Security Council Serghei Shoigu, said that China “is willing to work with Russia on close communication and coordination with the aim of strengthening multilateral cooperation”, according to the report provided by Chinese diplomacy. The Wang-Shoigu meeting is the first high-level bilateral in-person contact since Donald Trump’s US victory.
