Valentini, Singapore gateway to South-East Asia

Deputy Minister at the ANSA forum ‘Italy meets Singapore’

The “centrality” of Singapore as a “gateway” to the markets of South-East Asia was underlined by the Deputy Minister for Business and Made in Italy Valentino Valentini during his speech at the ANSA forum ‘Italy meets Singapore ‘, which took place on the occasion of the stop in the island-state of the training ship Amerigo Vespucci.

Valentini highlighted how in a “globalization that is taking on a new regional characteristic”, Singapore, similarly to what Italy does in the EU and in the Mediterranean, plays a crucial function as an exchange center in its area of interest.

But the similarities between the two countries, continued the deputy minister, do not end here. Another common characteristic is that of the quantity of family businesses and SMEs which, by their nature, take values into great consideration over the mere logic of profit. Just as human relationships are valued.

“It is however important – Valentini said – to underline the innovative aspect of our production system” which is not always adequately known and recognized abroad. “Tradition and innovation are not aspects in conflict with each other, but rather they are linked to each other” since it is precisely from familiar objects in common use that we start to start important innovative processes.

Valentini then concluded his speech by recalling the ever new emotion he feels every time he climbs onto Vespucci, a true treasure chest of the history of our country and the tradition of the Italian Navy.

In addition to Valentini, the forum was attended by the CEO of ANSA Stefano De Alessandri, Federico Donato, former president of Eurocham Singapore, Cecilia Laschi, director of the robotics department of the National University of Singapore, Huang Eu Chai, director of Ergo Travel, Charity Cheah, entrepreneur and co-founder of Toni&Guy Italia.
