Media, towards the system inspections on the European model
The Japanese government evaluates new concessions to simplify the inspection procedures of imported US cars, to try to escape the criticisms of the Trump administration on the alleged imposition of tariff barriers. The question was raised during the talks of last week in Washington, led by the Nipponic leader, Ryosei Akazawa, on behalf of Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, and follows Trump’s decision to impose 25% duties on japan on cars imports starting from April 3, and a basic rate of 10% on almost all other articles from April 5. Further mutual duties were suspended for 90 days.
The United States have long complained of inspections in Japan, claiming that their vehicles have already passed severe controls on cars emissions, together with other standards at home. An option taken into consideration by government officials, reveals the newspaper Asahi Shimbun, is the current regulatory framework in force for European car companies, thanks to the application of a simplified process which is the result of a common system of safety procedures. The Trump administration has also mentioned other sectors in which non -tariff barriers prevent US products from entering the market market, including agricultural products such as rice and beef. In the March report, the office of the commercial representative of the United States, writes the Japanese press, has drawn up a long list of agricultural products, such as the fruit and vegetable sector, the potatoes, and seafood, protected in Japan from non -competitive barriers. Although reiterating that he does not want to make concessions on food safety, by virtue of different parameters, Prime Minister Ishiba reported to the media that he had given instructions to the competent ministers that he considered useful measures to find a compromise quickly. The next round of negotiations between Japan and the United States is scheduled for the end of the month.
