The general strike in India is underway, the transport paralyzed

The protest organized by the unions against government policies

A 24-hour national general strike, organized by the unions to protest against the anti-mayor policies of the central government, is sober India. Public transport are almost completely paralyzed in various areas of the country. In the state of Odisha, thousands of members of the Center of Indian Trade Unions (Citu) blocked the national highway around the capital Bhubaneswar. In the state of the Bihar the demonstrators occupied the tracks in the Jehanabad railway joint. Similar manifestations in western Bengal where all trains are blocked. In Kerala, the strike has seen an almost total adhesion, with the main suspended activities, and 90%closed shops, while protests go through the cities. The strike was proclaimed by a forum of 10 national unions, who presented a document with 17 requests to the government. Among the questions, the cancellation of fixed -term employment contracts, the cancellation of the apprenticeship program Agnipath, the daily working hours of eight hours. The unions say that the government’s economic policies have increased unemployment, raised the prices of essential goods and decreased wages and cut the costs for welfare. But they also underlined the growth of inequalities and the increase in difficulties both for the poorest bands of the population and for the middle class.
