Taipei increases the national production of weapons and ammunition
Taiwan will produce a missile and a submarine drone for the first time with an American company, they declared some officials, while Taipei tries to increase the national production of weapons and ammunition. The Tachnology (NCSIST) National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology agreed at the beginning of this year with the US defense company Andril the joint production of the Barracuda-500, a low-cost autonomous cruise missile. Today, Ncsist and Andril have signed another agreement to cover the company’s underwater drone. These are the first agreements of this type between Taiwan and a foreign company, the president of Ncsist, Li Shih-Chiang, told the FP.
“Our aim is that, in war, even during the blockade, we can produce every weapon we need to protect ourselves,” said Li on the margin of the Taipei Aerospace and Defense Technology Exhibition, where Barracuda is exhibited.
;; the manager of Andril for Taiwan, Alex Chang, said that the goal of joint cooperation is the “mass producibility” and the sustainability of local production. The company “will work closely” with the United States and Taiwan, said Chang to the FP. Ncsist said it will take 18 months to build the Taiwan supply chain for the Barracuda-500, which uses 100%Taiwanese components.
