The two countries celebrate 50 years of diplomacy
The resident of Singapore, Tharman Shanmugaratnam, is visiting two days in Luxembourg. He was received at the Grand Palazzo Granducale by the Grand Duke Henri and the Grand Duchess Maria Teresa. During the meeting, President Tharman and Mrs. Jane Ittogi Shanmugaratnam participated in the ceremony of deposition of a crown of flowers in the national monument of solidarity, which took place on March 27 in honor of the fallen in war.
This visit also marks the 50/or anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Luxembourg, started in March 1975. President Tharman also had a meeting with Claude Wiseler, president of the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg, and with the deputy prime minister and minister of foreign affairs and foreign trade, Xavier Bettel. During the discussions, there was talk of strengthening bilateral relationships between the two countries on trade and finance, as well as exploring synergies in digitalization and space technology. Meetings are planned with Prime Minister Luc Frieden, and the president will also participate in a dialogue with Grand Duke Henri, the Finance Minister Gilles Roth and the leaders of the Luxembourg financial sector. In addition, President Tharman will visit the Grand Ducal Body of the Fire Brigade and Rescue of Luxembourg (CGDIS) and the Société Européenne des satellites (SES), European satellite operator.
