Protest demonstrations across South Korea today
In the political chaos into which South Korea has fallen after the double impeachment, first of a president and then of his interim successor, a report from the Prosecutor’s Office emerges which reveals disturbing details of the provisions of Yoon Suk Yeol, the first to be deposed, who led to his ouster.
According to the report, on December 3, Yoon Suk Yeol had authorized the military to fire their weapons if necessary inside Parliament during his failed attempt to impose martial law. Former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun’s 10-page document, released to the media, also states that Yoon vowed on December 3 to declare martial law, if necessary repeating the attempt several times if the government fails to approve it. Parliament. Stripped of his duties by the National Assembly this month, Yoon is under investigation for his attempt to eliminate the civilian government, which plunged the country into political chaos and led to his impeachment.
The former president’s lawyer, Yoon Kab-keun, rejected the prosecutors’ report, arguing that it is “a one-sided account that corresponds neither to objective circumstances nor to common sense.”
Meanwhile, protests are taking place across the country in support of the interim president, Han Duck-soo, who was ousted yesterday by parliament, while supporters and opponents of the ousted president Yoon Suk Yeol are also preparing to take to the streets.
