Seoul, Parliament approves the impeachment of President Yoon

After last Saturday’s stalemate

The Seoul National Assembly has approved the impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk-yeol, who came under fire for the clumsy attempt to impose martial law, declared on December 3 and withdrawn six hours later following the parliamentary rejection. The motion, promoted by the opposition, passed on the second attempt after the stalemate last Saturday. This time the 108 deputies of the People Power Party, Yoon’s ruling party, participated in the vote, with several speaking in favor and allowing the assembly to reach a quorum of two thirds (200 out of 300 total).
