Opposition leader, 'go ahead with Yoon's impeachment'

‘Disappointed by the president’s speech, resignation is the only alternative’

The South Korean opposition’s plans to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol are moving forward.

“There is no way to resolve the situation except with immediate resignation or an early exit through impeachment,” said Lee Jae-myung, the opposition leader, saying he was “very disappointed” by Yoon’s speech to the nation . “His remarks were completely out of line with people’s expectations, increasing their sense of betrayal and anger,” Lee added in a news conference, according to Yonhap. Parliament will vote on the impeachment motion at 5pm local time (9am in Italy).
