On the north western side and to the south west of the country
The wave of frost that for two weeks has gripped the north-western side of Japan, forcing the authorities to keep the guard from the risk of avalanches, with the road arteries that remain impractical in view of new snowfall, has not stopped. The National Meteorological Agency (JMA) has declared that further critical issues are already planned for today in the prefectures of Niigata, Ishikawa and Nagano, as well as in some regions to the south-west, including the prefectures of Hiroshima and Shimane. Jma also warned the population to be careful of landslides, to pay attention to the frozen roads and the freezing of water pipes due to temperatures that are expected even more rigid. In the early morning of Monday, the northern city of Aomori recorded five meters of snow, Uonuma, in the prefecture of Niigata, saw 3.80 meters of snow mantle fall, and over 3 meters of white bows held the town of Tadami, in the Prefecture of Fukushima.
The regions that overlook the Japan Sea generally every year attract an increasing number of tourists from abroad due to the presence of multiple ski stations. This month, however, record snowfalls have caused traffic inconvenience and numerous victims, mainly due to domestic accidents, in particular among the elderly residents.
