The managers of the Kuno National Park, in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh they freed today in the wooded area of Sheopur, Gamini, a female of cheetah that came from South Africa and its four puppies, born in India twelve months ago. With them, the number of free ghepardi in Kuno rises to seventeen, while nine other large felines are still cared for in protected areas.
In a note, the director of the park informs that “the mother and her puppies are in excellent health and since the area in which they were freed is open to the safaris, tourists will have from now on the possibility of admiring them”.
India has invested considerable commitment to the project, launched by the Premier Modi, of repopulation of the ghepardi, who were extinct in its territory since the early sixties and, starting from 2022, has “imported” eight adults from Namibia, followed by another 20 by South Africa. While some have not adapted to the transfer, other puppies were born in India.
