First institutional visit. Vattani, confirms support for the Regions
Massimiliano Fedriga, President of the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and of the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces, was the protagonist of the first institutional visit to the construction site of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka. Less than 150 days before the opening of the Universal Exhibition, which will welcome around 30 million visitors from 13 April to 13 October 2025, Fedriga had the opportunity to observe – we read in a note – the progress of the works, to celebrate a symbolic milestone towards the realization of a project which, in line with the themes of Expo, represents Italian ingenuity, sustainability and design in the world. During the visit Fedriga was accompanied by Ambassador Mario Vattani, General Commissioner for Italy at Expo 2025 Osaka and by the Architect of the Italian Pavilion, Mario Cucinella.
“The participation of the Regions and Autonomous Provinces in the Osaka International Exhibition is part of a virtuous path, already started at the time of the Dubai Expo, aimed at enhancing the numerous excellences of the territories and recognizing the centrality of these, and of the communities local, as primary vectors of cultural, social and economic development of the country” commented Fedriga, underlining that it is “an opportunity that we felt we could seize with enthusiasm at the system level of the Regions, no less than individually: The Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia will in fact be present in Japan already during the first thematic week of the Italian Pavilion, between 27 April and 3 May 2025, to tell its story to the general public and to a selected audience of stakeholders. Finally, the day will be particularly significant 25 April, during which the preview of the third edition of Selecting Italy will take place, the event on attracting foreign investments and regional value chains – which will be held in Trieste at the beginning of November 2025 – jointly organized by the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces and the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia and sponsored by the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and of Business and Made in Italy”.
“The presence of President Fedriga on an official visit to the construction site at the Italian Pavilion confirms the support of the system of Italian regions which accompanies Italy’s project at Expo 2025 Osaka. Expo is an extraordinary showcase and a unique opportunity to exploit international visibility , encourage new economic agreements, strengthen Italian exports and, thanks to investment attraction events that we will bring here in Osaka, become a driving force for foreign investments in Italy”, declared Vattani underlining that “the massive participation of the Regions in Expo 2025 Osaka becomes a strategic lever for the promotion of Italy in Japan and Asia. We are working on a dense calendar of events that enhances the peculiarities of our territories and presents the united regional system: the strength of cultural heritage, the value of territories, the innovation of production chains and daily live events will be protagonists in the spaces of the Italian Pavilion and will have a decisive role in the visitor experience”.
“The construction site of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka represents not only a place of construction, but a tangible symbol of the ingenuity, creativity and sustainability that characterize our country. With the completion of the wooden structures, we enter a crucial phase which will give shape to the architectural and scenographic identity of the project” added Mario Cucinella, Architect&Founder of MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects. “The visit of President Massimiliano Fedriga is a significant moment: an opportunity to share the path of this project with those who represent our regions and their innovative spirit. This goal is the result of a collective commitment, which looks with determination to opening of the Pavilion in April 2025, when Italy will present itself to the world as an example of vision, sustainability and beauty”.
With the completion of the wooden load-bearing structures in mid-October, the construction site of the Italian Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka now enters a new crucial phase. The month of November, with the definitive closure of the external envelope, marked the transition from the structural works to the internal architectural and fit-out activities, with the aim of defining the substantial elements of the project and preparing the spaces for the installation scenographic. The last months of 2024 and the first of 2025 will be dedicated to the installation of fundamental systems and systems, essential to finalize all the civil works and complete the Pavilion up to the final testing and inspection phases for the opening on 13 April 2025.
Expo 2025 will be held in Osaka from 13 April to 13 October 2025 and has the theme “Designing future societies for our lives”. The Italian Pavilion, designed by Studio MCA – Mario Cucinella Architects, interprets it with “Art regenerates life”. At the center of the visitor experience of the Italian Pavilion was announced the presence of the Farnese Atlas, the imposing marble sculpture of almost 20 quintals and approximately 2 meters in height, belonging to the collection of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples (MANN), which arrives for the first time in history in Japan and Asia.
