The move could cause diplomatic tensions with Delhi
Bangladesh will ask India for the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina: this was said by Nobel Peace Prize winner Muhammad Yunus, current Chief Advisor to the interim government of Dhaka, on the occasion of his first 100 days in office.
Yunus confirmed that his government plans to bring Hasina back to the country from the Indian capital, where she took refuge in an undisclosed location after fleeing Bangladesh, to try her for charges ranging from corruption to assassination to crimes against humanity.
In early November, investigators had already issued an arrest warrant for Hasina and announced their intention to ask Interpol for a red notice for her and her allies, many of whom fled abroad last summer , as soon as the protests broke out which then led to the prime minister’s flight.
The decision to make a formal extradition request could cause diplomatic tensions with India, already alarmed by some attacks and attacks on Hindu temples that have occurred in recent weeks in Bangladesh.
