The Afghan Minister for Refugees was killed in an explosion at the ministry. This was reported by a government source.
“Unfortunately, an explosion occurred at the Ministry of Refugees and Minister Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani was martyred along with some of his colleagues,” said the official who wished to remain anonymous. Khalil Ur-Rahman Haqqani was the brother of Jalaluddin Haqqani, founder of the feared Haqqani network, responsible for some of the most violent attacks during the two-decade Taliban insurgency. He was also the uncle of Sirajuddin Haqqani, the current Home Minister.
Violence has declined in Afghanistan since Taliban forces took control of the country in 2021, ending their war against the United States and NATO-led foreign forces. However, the Islamic State’s regional chapter, known as Islamic State Khorasan, is active in Afghanistan and has regularly targeted civilians, foreigners and Taliban officials in gun and bomb attacks.
