3 Chinese astronauts return to the ground after 6 months in space

From Tiangong Space Station, the landing in internal Mongolia

Three Chinese astronauts returned to Earth Tuesday after six months spent on the Tiangong space station (Palazzo Celeste), concluding the Shengzhou-19 mission. This was revealed by the Chinese official media, including CCTV. The spacecraft with Cai Xuzhe, Song Lingong and Wang Haoze on board has landed in the northern region of internal Mongolia, according to the images of the CCTV state broadcaster.

China had postponed the return of the crew, originally scheduled for Tuesday, due to bad weather conditions on the ground. The three astronauts of Shenzhou-19 worked on the space station since October. There they conducted numerous experiments, contributed to Tiangong’s maintenance and set the record for the longest space walk in history, which lasted over 9 hours. One of the three astronauts of Shenzhou-19 is the 35-year-old Wang Haoze, a space engineer, who became the third Chinese woman to reach the space, after Liu Yang in 2012 and Wang Yaping in 2013. The crew who worked for six months aboard the ‘Celeste Palace’ was led by Cai Xuzhe, 48 years old, a veteran astronaut who had already participated in the Shenzhou-4-4 mission. The third is Song Lingong, a former 34 -year -old Air Force driver, on his first flight in space. Three new astronauts flew on Tiangong last week, marking the beginning of the Shenzhou-20 mission. They lived there for a few days with their colleagues from the Shenzhou-19.

Beijing has invested billions of euros in his space program to reach the United States and Russia, and hopes to send a mission with a crew on the moon by 2030 and then build a lunar base.
