Premier: the Ninh Thuan plant will be completed by 2030
The Prime Minister Vietnamese Pham Minh Chinh today asked the competent authorities to accelerate the development of the Ninh Thuan Nuclear Centrale project during the second meeting, which he chaired by the Management Committee for the construction of the system: the news site reports it Vietnam Plus.
The relaunch of the Ninh Thuan project, initially approved by the 12/but national assembly in 2009 but suspended in 2016, marks a significant change in the energy strategy of Vietnam. The project, which includes two plants with an overall capacity of over 4,000 MW, received the principle approvals of the Central Committee of the Party and the National Assembly at the end of 2024.
During the meeting, Pham Minh Chinh set 2030 as the date for completing the control unit, which sees the main investors Vietnam Electricity (EVN) and Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (Petrovietnam). But additional financing sources are exploring, Chinh said, underlining the urgent priority of the development of green and sustainable energy, with nuclear energy seen as a crucial solution.
“Vietnam is committing to achieving economic growth of 8% in 2025 and a two-digit expansion in the following years, with a growth of the annual energy demand of 12-16%, in particular in emerging sectors such as the Artificial intelligence, cloud computing, the internet of things and big data, “said the premier.
