Trump arrived in Japan, today he will see Emperor Naruhito

The focus of the visit was on US investments and Japanese defence

US President Donald Trump landed at Haneda-Tokyo Airport in Japan for a three-day stay. This is his fourth visit as president and the first since the G-20 in Osaka in 2019, as well as the first of his second term. The agenda includes a meeting with Emperor Naruhito, already in the early evening, followed on Tuesday by the summit with the new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, and by a visit to the US military base in Yokosuka, south of the capital, where he will give a speech on board an aircraft carrier.

Also on Tuesday, an evening meeting with business leaders is planned in Tokyo. Trump said he hoped to build “a fantastic relationship” with Takaichi, at the same time he stressed the need for a greater role for the allied country in regional security through increased military spending.

The US president also reiterated that Washington intends to select the destinations of Japanese investments, part of a bilateral agreement born from negotiations on the duties introduced by his administration.
