Thousands of people protest in central New Delhi

They are calling for the Education Minister’s resignation after an alleged leak of information on Medicine tests

Thousands of people are demonstrating in the center of New Delhi: ANSA found this on the spot. Demonstrators march in the Jantar Mantar area demanding the resignation of the Indian Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, after an alleged leak of information on the questions of the entrance test to the Faculty of Medicine held in May, which was therefore canceled and then repeated.

Among the protesters there are many students and many young people.

Some wave the Indian tricolour. “Peaceful protest,” reads a poster at Jantar Mantar. “Thank you, Sonam Sir!” reads on a sign held in the hand of a boy. The reference is to Sonam Wangchuk, a well-known activist who on Saturday the police forcibly admitted to hospital after 20 days of hunger strike to demand the resignation of minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The political-satirical movement ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ – which gathered 22 million followers on Instagram in a short time after its founding as an online group in mid-May – has been protesting for weeks in central Delhi demanding the minister’s resignation.

According to the Indian news agency PTI, the police said that today’s demonstration was not authorized and that no marches towards Parliament would be permitted.
