The Vietnamese Central Province of Quang Tri suspended the reclamation operations from war devices following the freezing of foreign aid of the United States.
Vietnam News reports that the three NGOs financed by the United States, which employ about 200 employees for the reclamation of a vast territory of the province, abruptly interrupted the work after the US diplomatic funding have been suspended.
Quang Tri is one of the provinces of Vietnam most contaminated by the war, with more than 62,000 hectares of land still scattered with mines and unexploded devices dating back to the Vietnam War, which ended in 1975.
The remediation efforts supported by the United States have so far allowed to remove mines and explosives from 37,000 hectares and to neutralize more than 830,000 devices.
