Taiwan excludes Contradizi, 'Stop to commercial barriers with USA'

The proposal of President Lai, ‘our economy is solid’

Taiwan will not seek retaliation rates against duties at 32% of Donald Trump and will be committed to removing commercial barriers with the USA.

In a video message, President William Lai listed five measures, including the establishment of a team for negotiations and the purchase of more American goods to reduce commercial imbalance, in the middle of the fears of public opinion on the potential economic repercussions of Washington’s narrow. Lai recognized the “significant impact” of the Tycoon move on the economy, but he urged not to panic on the basis of Taiwan’s “economic fundamental solids”.

Lai, in his widespread message on Sunday, observed that, despite 23.4% of Taiwan’s export went to the United States in 2024, over 75% reached other markets. Among the goods shipped to America, ICT products and electronics components constituted 65.4%, a signal that Taipei’s economy remains highly resilient. “Taiwan does not plan to adopt tariff measures of retaliation in response to the ‘mutual rates’ of the USA. The investments of Taiwanese companies in the United States will also continue without changes, provided they are in line with our national interests,” added Lai in the 8 -minute video. To mitigate the impact of the rates, Lai said that his government has formed a negotiation team led by deputy prime minister Chen-Ciun to start formal interviews with the United States. “Negotiations can start with the objective of ‘Zero Tates’, modeled on the Usmca (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement)”, then observed the president. The Government also provides to expand purchases of American goods, including agricultural, industrial, oil and natural gas products and defense equipment, in an attempt to reduce commercial deficit. Lai said that his government will also help Taiwanese companies to expand their investments in the United States, as in the electronics, ICT, petrochemical and natural gas sectors. And it will also work to eliminate long -standing non -tariff barriers and face the concerns of the United States on checks on exports of high -tech products and on the illegal re -ease of low -cost goods. At national level, Lai said that the government will support the industries most affected by the new rates (such as traditional companies and SMEs), will accelerate industrial transformation and will exploit Taiwan’s strengths in semiconductors and intelligent production to position the country as a leader in artificial intelligence applications.
