Singapore, new leader for the governing party

Wong replaces Lee completing the transition

In a press release on December 4, the People’s Action Party (PAP) announced that Prime Minister Lawrence Wong has taken over from senior minister Lee Hsien Loong as party leader. Lee, who had previously announced his decision to resign from the position of general secretary after twenty years of leadership, will remain a member of the central executive committee, the party’s highest decision-making body.

The PAP expressed gratitude to Lee for his decades of leadership and welcomed Wong, who will now take over the leadership of the party, leading it towards the next general elections due by November 2025.
