Seoul, the army chief offers his resignation

General Park An-su led the Martial Law Command

South Korean army chief General Park An-su said he submitted his resignation to former Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun on Wednesday following President Yoon Suk-yeol’s attempt to impose martial law. Park had been appointed to lead the Martial Law Command: a position that lasted six hours, until the state of emergency was revoked in the wake of Parliament’s rejection.

The general, in an emergency hearing at the parliamentary defense committee, said he learned about the martial law by watching Yoon’s speech on TV late Tuesday evening, Yonhap reported.
