The North Korean leader, ‘clear sign of military progress’
North Korea has confirmed the test of a newly developed light multipurpose missile launch system and several tactical cruise missiles. This was reported by state media cited by Yonhap. Leader Kim Jong-un was also supervising the test.
The Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) published the report a day after the South Korean military detected the firing of several short-range ballistic missiles (CRBMs) and artillery rockets towards the Yellow Sea from the Jongju area of North Phyongan province. Yesterday’s test was “part of the armed forces’ artillery and missile modernization plan to achieve the five-year national defense development goal,” the KCNA report said. The test “analyzed and evaluated the power of the tactical ballistic missile’s special mission warhead, the reliability of the 240 mm extended firing range controlled artillery rocket employing an ultra-precise autonomous navigation system, and the artificial intelligence-guided hit precision of the tactical cruise missile,” it added. According to the report, Kim expressed “great satisfaction” with the test, calling it “a clear signal” of military progress and growing combat capability.
