Kim, 'North Korea will be a rich socialist paradise'

The leader’s promise at the 80th anniversary of the Workers’ Party

Kim Jong-un pledged to transform North Korea into a “rich socialist paradise”, speaking yesterday at Pyongyang’s May Day Stadium at one of the events planned to celebrate 80 years of the founding of the Workers’ Party. Kim, in the report by the state news agency KCNA, recalled the party’s past line, saying that he had to pursue a policy of simultaneous economic development and nuclear power to cope with the growing threats of atomic war from “the US imperialists”, in the context of the global political turmoil of the 1990s.

“Historically, there has never been a country in the world like ours, which has had to carry out so many tasks for national defense and construction, while having to face constant and tenacious pressure, interference and threats of aggression from external forces – added Kim -. The country suffers fierce political and military pressure from its adversaries”, but its “international prestige” as a faithful member of the socialist forces increases further every year.

If the country works for a few more years with the same spirit, it will be able to transform its life in an extraordinary way and achieve its goals.

“I will definitely transform this country into a richer and more beautiful land and the best socialist paradise in the world,” the leader promised, in front of tens of thousands of North Korean citizens and a large delegation of foreign guests.

Thursday’s events, on the eve of the anniversary, featured fireworks, mass games and performance art. Among the illustrious guests flown to Pyongyang were the Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang, the Vice President of the Russian Security Council Dmitri Medvedev and the leader of the Vietnamese Communist Party To Lam.

Also on Thursday, Kim attended a concert by a delegation of Russian artists, including singer-songwriter Shaman, at the Mansudae Art Theater in Pyongyang, accompanied by his powerful sister Kim Yo-jong and Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui.

The leader praised the performance as a “unique contribution” to strengthening the brotherly friendship between North Korea and Russia, KCNA reported.
