Indian embassy in Niamey: “Another kidnapped and one third who passed away”
An Indian citizen was killed, another kidnapped and a third has “disappeared” in a “terrorist” attack in the south-west of the Niger that took place on Tuesday near Nigeria: the Indian embassy in Niamey announced it.
“In a hateful terrorist attack on July 15 in the Dosso region, in Niger, an Indian citizen was killed, another kidnapped and a third is still missing”. This was stated by the Indian embassy in a press release.
According to local sources, unidentified armed attackers conducted an ambush against a unit of the army that guaranteed safety on the construction site of an electrical line in the west of the Dosso region, located about a hundred kilometers from the capital Niamey. “The Indian embassy in Niamey is in close contact with the employer, the families of the affected people” and the Nigerian government to “facilitate the rapid repatriation” of the body and “guarantee the safety and rapid liberation of the kidnapped Indian citizen”, underlined the press release.
The Indian embassy also invited all Indian citizens to Niger “to the utmost prudence and remain vigilant”. The Dosso region shares a double border with Nigeria and Benin, where the attacks regularly affect civilians, the army and the large oil pipeline that transports rough oil from Niger to Benin.
