Lower House vote decisive, for the first time in 30 years
Shigeru Ishiba was confirmed as Prime Minister of Japan in the run-off elections held in the Lower House of Parliament for the first time in 30 years, after none of the leaders of the political parties had obtained a majority in the first round of voting, following the general elections held on October 27. The media reports it.
Before this morning’s extraordinary parliamentary session – convened according to the law within 30 days of the general vote – the executive of Shigeru Ishiba, president of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), had resigned en masse, as per practice.
