Tuesday is the 1st day of the season, an auspicious date
The whole of India is plagued by preparations underway everywhere, in view of November 12, the day which will see the celebration of several million weddings throughout the country.
That date, in fact, is not only the first day of the “shubh muhuraat saaya”, the auspicious season for weddings which will last until mid-December, but is also of particular importance. Hindus believe that November 12 this year coincides with the day on which the god Vishnu will wake up after four months of purifying sleep: they were therefore able to plan a wedding without the need for further consultations with priests or astrologers.
For November 12, the media predicts that at least 50,000 weddings will take place in Delhi alone, with the ceremonies invariably followed by parties and receptions, from the simplest to the most sumptuous. The National Confederation of Commerce confirms the forecast: all operators who set up pavilions or tents for receptions, decorators, electricians, florists, catering companies, hairdressers, make-up artists, bands and musical groups, photographers and the videographers were booked months in advance for November 12th.
The Confederation also studied the behavior of those who purchased gifts for the spouses: while in general Indian products were favored over foreign ones, jewelery dominated purchases followed by clothing, electronics and household appliances, and in the queue , from foods, and objects.
The auspicious season for Indian weddings will end in mid-December, and then resume a month later, in mid-January, when hundreds of thousands more ceremonies are already scheduled.
