ICC prosecutor requests arrest warrant for Taliban leader

‘Crimes against humanity for the persecution of women’

“Today I can announce that my office has filed two arrest warrant requests before Pre-Trial Chamber II of the International Criminal Court regarding the situation in Afghanistan.” This was announced by Attorney General Karim Khan. “After a thorough investigation and based on the evidence gathered, my office maintains that there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Supreme Leader of the Taliban, Haibatullah Akhundzada, and the Chief Justice of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, Abdul Hakim Haqqani , are responsible for the crime against humanity of gender-based persecution.”
