China condemns President Taiwan's stop in Hawaii

It lodges a formal protest with the US for having it organised

China “strongly condemns the organization by the US of the stopover” of Taiwanese President William Lai in Hawaii and has “submitted formal protests” to the US. This is what a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on Lai’s stopover, as he was on his first trip abroad. China “firmly opposes any form of official interaction between the US and the Taiwan region, any trip by the Taiwanese leader to the US under any name or pretext, and any form of US connivance or support for separatists for the independence of Taiwan and their separatist activities”.
