Beijing against Tokyo protests, 'Diaoyu islands are our territory'

Japan reports blitz to the Japanese-administered Senkaku

The Diaoyu Islands and affiliated islands “are inherent territory of China, and the Chinese Coast Guard vessels patrolling China’s territorial waters are legitimate, justified and above reproach.” This is what Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said regarding the four coast guard units accused by Tokyo of having entered the territorial waters of the Senkaku on Sunday, the uninhabited islands in the East China Sea under Japanese administration, but resold by Beijing under the name of Diaoyu.

China “does not accept Japan’s unreasonable objections, rejected them immediately and submitted objections”, added Mao, regarding the “severe formal protest through diplomatic channels” presented in Beijing and reported on Monday by the Japanese chief of staff, Minoru Kihara. The spokeswoman, in the daily briefing, added that China urged Japan “to respect the four-point agreement in principle between the two countries, to respect China’s territorial sovereignty, not to interfere with legitimate patrols by Chinese coast guard vessels and to avoid taking actions that could lead to an escalation of the situation.”
