First visit by a Vietnamese leader since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991
To Lam, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam and President of the Republic, concluded a three-day state visit to Russia, the first by a Vietnamese leader since the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.
To Lam held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin as well as with the heads of the main institutions of the Federation, including Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and several political leaders and parliamentarians.
As VietnamPlus reports, the two sides agreed to study the establishment of new cooperation mechanisms and specialized working groups in various sectors, with a commitment to encouraging enterprises from each other’s countries to expand their businesses into each other’s markets, marking a new phase of substantial cooperation. Particular attention was paid to the sectors of energy, innovation, digital transformation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
At the end of the visit, To Lam left for Paris for an official visit to France and to participate in the International Space Summit, scheduled until September 12th.
