He demonstrated together with other opponents in front of Prime Minister Modi’s residence
Indian Congress Party leader Rahul Gandhi and other opponents were stopped by police after protesting in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence, several local media reported.
The opponents were taken to three different police stations, writes the PTI agency, according to which those arrested also include MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, daughter of Sonia Gandhi and sister of Rahuland Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav.
In the afternoon, Rahul Gandhi had written a post on social media calling for the resignation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and saying he wanted “answers from him on yesterday’s brutality against young students” who were protesting in New Delhi.
Yesterday, thousands of protesters, including many students and young people, marched in the center of the Indian capital and there were clashes with the police, who used batons and tear gas. According to France Presse, some demonstrators “responded by throwing stones”.
The political-satirical movement ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ has been protesting since June, calling for the resignation of the Indian Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan, after an alleged leak of information on the questions for the entrance exam to the Faculty of Medicine held in May, which was therefore canceled and repeated.
