Vietnam News: ‘After upgrading relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’

Vietnam and the European Union accelerate cooperation in science, technology and innovation, taking advantage of the recent elevation of bilateral relations to the rank of Global Strategic Partnership. This was reported by the newspaper Vietnam News, which reports the meeting that took place yesterday in Hanoi between Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung and the European Commissioner for Startups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva.

At the center of the talks is the preparation of a letter of intent between the EU and the Vietnamese Ministry of Science and Technology, aimed at strengthening ties between researchers, businesses and innovation ecosystems on the two sides.

Zaharieva underlined that the agreement will allow Vietnamese universities, research institutes and companies to participate more actively in Horizon Europe, the main European program for research and innovation. The sectors identified as priorities for cooperation are digital transformation, artificial intelligence, green economy, circular economy, renewable energy and sustainable development.

The EU is currently Vietnam’s fourth largest trading partner and fifth largest investor, while Vietnam is itself the EU’s main trading partner in ASEAN, with over 35 years of diplomatic relations behind it.
