In Vietnam, the ancient city of Hoi An, a UNESCO world heritage site, launches a digital map of arts and creative spaces, accessible via QR code, GPS and artificial intelligence, to connect local artists, artisans, cultural sites and villages in the area. This was reported by Vietnam News, which reports on the initiative of the Center for the Conservation of World Heritage of Hoi An, developed with the support of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam.
The digital map was presented as part of the ongoing Creative Week from August 28 to September 2 with craft and art experience programs, conservation dialogues and workshops.
The tool allows residents and tourists to explore the creative value of the ancient city and the craft villages that surround it: from the carpentry of Kim Bong to the pottery of Thanh Ha, from the herb garden of Tra Que to the nipa leaf weaving of Cam Thanh, to the Cham Islands.
The city’s traditional crafts — carpentry, pottery, lanterns, bamboo, clothing and leather goods — involve 685 small businesses and around 4,000 artisans.
Three of the city’s five artisan villages have already obtained recognition as national intangible heritage.
